As an introduction, the researchers provided an overview of the socio-economic upheavals in the country and their impact on Haitian consumption habits and agricultural policies regarding rice consumption over the years.
"Haitians consume approximately 85 kg (187 lb) of rice per capita annually in 2020, an increase of 66 kg (146 lb) per capita annually compared to consumption in 2010. In comparison, the average American consumes 12 kg (27 lb) of rice each year," the researchers introduced.
