A dam on the rivière Grise to increase agricultural production

Michel Joseph Martelly, President of the Republic, members of the government, Pamela White, U.S. Ambassador in Haiti, and several authorities of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) began the construction of the Rivière Grise’s dam (gray river) on Friday May 9th. Jean-Robert Estimé, WINNER Director, awaited the arrival of the President. In an electric atmosphere, President Martelly thanked the US government for the realization of the dam and the other USAID-funded projects.

llThe locality of Dumay will greatly benefit from this major project. 8 million USD were allocated for the implementation of the dam from the WINNER/Feed the Future West project. It will irrigate 2,300 hectares in this locality. After the inauguration, the authorities claim that the irrigated areas in this part of the country will range from 5,000-7,500 by February 2015.
