Daily Life Becomes Unbearable Amid Soaring 31.1% Inflation

Annual inflation in Haiti has now reached 31.1%, according to the most recent data. This figure, already alarming, hides an even harsher reality for the most vulnerable households.

The year-on-year variation in prices shows that food products and alcoholic beverages have risen by 35%, gas and fuel by nearly 40%, and housing by more than 47%. Added to this are the situation of internal displacement and the opacity of the economic environment. For the majority of households, nearly half of the budget is devoted to food. But beyond the statistics, the perception—what people actually experience—is much worse, said Kesner Pharel during an interview on Magik9 on September 25, 2025.
