Claude Prépetit Clarifies Recent Seismic Events

The Director General of the Bureau of Mines and Energy (BME), Claude Prépetit, provided clarifications regarding the seismic activity that occurred in the country over the past 24 hours. Speaking on the program Panel Magik on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, the engineer-geologist gave an overview of the recorded tremors and called for adherence to protective measures.

According to Claude Prépetit, between August 4 and 5, nearly nine seismic tremors were recorded on Haitian soil. Of these nine tremors, one occurred in the Nippes region and the other eight were concentrated between Pétion-Ville, Croix-des-Bouquets, and Fonds Parisien. The engineer-geologist noted that these were surface tremors at very shallow depths—between 7 and 10 km.
