Fanfan Ti Bòt of Tabou Combo Calls for Stronger Cultural Policy

The celebration of the 70th anniversary of compas, beyond the festivities, also offers opportunities to reflect on Haitian music. In this regard, Yves Joseph, known as “Fanfan Ti Bòt” to his many fans, advocated for this reflection during his appearance on Panel Magik on Friday, July 25, 2025.

“Haiti does not place importance on art in general, and on music in particular,” lamented Yves Joseph, invited to share his perspective on compas, 70 years after its creation. The singer and percussionist of Tabou Combo shared his experience regarding the value given to music in the countries he has visited over his long career. In the Caribbean, he noted, music is an “international vehicle” and artists are “venerated.”
