Chilean Embassy in Haiti Commemorates the 1973 Coup d'État

The Chilean Embassy in Haiti hosted a reception on Monday, December 18, 2023, at the NH Haiti El Rancho hotel to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the 50th anniversary of the coup d'état in Chile that ended Salvador Allende's presidency in 1973. The dual commemoration, themed "Duty of Memory, Democracy, and Human Rights," was attended by the Chargé d'Affaires ad interim of Chile in Haiti, María José González Quiroz, and the Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH), Ulrika Richardson.

During her remarks at this dual commemoration, Quiroz praised the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted on December 10, 1948. She emphasized that it is more than a text; it is a commitment, a solemn promise of humanity to itself.
