Promoting Solar Adoption Among a Significant Portion of the Population

In the context of presenting its study on the use of solar energy by industries in Haiti, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a branch of the World Bank, organized a luncheon debate on the topic with business leaders, government representatives, and development stakeholders. This event took place on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at the Karibe Convention Center and allowed participants to discuss the study's findings, the potential for businesses to self-generate solar energy for their operations, and the obstacles to solar adoption in the country.

Commissioned by the IFC, the study analyzed the demand for self-generated solar energy, the supply of solar panels and equipment, the Haitian market, and the main challenges that businesses face in transitioning to solar energy. Despite various obstacles, Haitian businesses show a favorable attitude toward adopting solar energy. The study's conclusions reveal that 90% of the surveyed companies are willing to make the transition, considering solar energy as a more cost-effective option compared to diesel-powered generators.
