The Shada market in Pétion-Ville devastated by fire

A fire broke out at the Shada market in Pétion-Ville during the night of May 3-4, 2023, ravaging a large part of the site before firefighters were able to intervene. The specter of unknown origin fires is resurfacing in Port-au-Prince.

The Shada market in Petion-Ville, located between Rigaud and Geffrard streets, was ravaged by flames on the night of May 3-4. The cause of the fire is unknown, as is often the case in the metropolitan region. In a short amateur video filmed at night, members of the population can be seen trying to contain the fire. Firefighters from Delmas and Tabarre who arrived at the scene were only able to limit the damage. A large part of the market was destroyed by the fire.
