Naomy Grand’Pierre proud to have represented Haiti

On August 12th, as part of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Haitian swimmer Naomy Grand’Pierre finished 2nd in heat 5 of the 50-meter women’s freestyle with a time of 27.46 seconds, about 3.23 seconds off the top time.

Though she did not qualify as one of the top sixteen qualifiers, she said “I’m really excited.” “It’s the first time a female has ever swum for Haiti at the Olympics, so I’m just honored to be here in Brazil representing Haiti.” Grand’Pierre is a dual citizen of the U.S. and Haiti and the daughter Haitian immigrants. “It wasn’t as fast as I wanted to swim, but I really can’t complain,” she said. “I’m honored to be here and I’m proud of my race.” By Kristine Belizaire
