Though she did not qualify as one of the top sixteen qualifiers, she said “I’m really excited.” “It’s the first time a female has ever swum for Haiti at the Olympics, so I’m just honored to be here in Brazil representing Haiti.” Grand’Pierre is a dual citizen of the U.S. and Haiti and the daughter Haitian immigrants.
“It wasn’t as fast as I wanted to swim, but I really can’t complain,” she said. “I’m honored to be here and I’m proud of my race.”
