Avesac rehabilitated: a sigh of relief for users

12.1 million euros was the amount invested in the framework of the rehabilitation of irrigation infrastructures of Avesac, a work dating from colonial times. Financed by the French Development Agency (AFD) and the European Union (EU), the first phase of this work was inaugurated on September 15th in the presence of several senior government officials and the international community. According to the authorities present, this work will enable farmers to improve agricultural production, income and living conditions.

Increasing the irrigated agricultural area, promoting better management of water resources in the southern department, reducing poverty in rural areas, and improving food security are among the objectives pursued through the rehabilitation of the Avesac irrigation infrastructure in the town of Camp Perrin. These works, which are part of the food security project (SECAL), will help to highlight several thousand hectares of land in the plain of Les Cayes.
