Sophia Martelly registers for Senate elections

On April 23rd, Sophia Martelly, wife of Haitian President Michel Martelly, officially announced her entry into the electoral race on her Twitter account by posting a picture of her holding up her registration document.

She is will be running for a Senate seat representing the West department, which includes the capital of Port-au-Prince. Born in New York, Martelly holds dual Haitian and American nationality.
