Rivière Grise dam construction advances

The dam on the Rivière Grise, on schedule to be the latest achievement of Winner USAID project in the country, is beginning to take shape. A delegation from the Ministry of Agriculture led by Pierre Guy Lafontant, its General Director and Arnoux Severin, Departmental Director of the West, visited Dumay (Croix-des-Bouquets) on October 6th to determine the progress.

A 450 meter long dam made of steel, which will help irrigate about 6000 hectares of land, is under construction. “This work began in May and will end in December or next January," said Jean-Robert Estime, Director of Winner project. According to him, the cost of this work amounts to nearly 10 million USD. He added that there will be no flooding in Dumay or the city of Croix-des-Bouquets once the work is completed.
