Donald Paraison announces a major sanitation campaign

The Metropolitan Solid Waste Collection Service (SMCRS in French) launches a major back-to-school campaign. This initiative will create more than 5,000 temporary jobs, said Donald Paraison, General Director of SMCRS on Wednesday September 3rd at the Prime Minister’s Office. He also announced the continuation of interventions on major arteries like La Saline, particularly at Croix-des-Bosales.

"A budget of 100 million gourdes is allocated to SMCRS to facilitate its work to improve the environment of Port-au-Prince and surrounding areas for the reopening of school on September 8th ," said Mr. Paraison. According to Paraison, these temporary jobs will enable households in precarious conditions to meet the economic costs of the new school year. "We will focus on mothers who are heads of households," he said. In total, the SMCRS will create between 5,000 and 6,000 jobs. This campaign should not end with the school year, said Paraison,
