Measures to protect Macaya National Park

The Ministry of the Environment (MDE in French), initiated a visit on June 7, 2014, to Macaya Park as part of World Environment Day, celebrated last Thursday, June 5th. This visit is part of a government project to ensure the protection and regeneration of natural resources of more than 8,700 hectares which go across the departments of the South and Grand’Anse.

The Natural Macaya National Park (PNNM in French), located in Formont ,was bubbling with activities on Saturday, June 7th. In an indescribable cacophony, several groups of rara sang loudly and paraded to the sound of tchatcha, bamboo and cymbals. Some of them, coming from afar, made the trip early in the morning to meet President Martelly. On the steep road from Les Cayes to the Park there were banners welcoming the President. A team from the National Equipment Council (CNE in French) worked on the road for about a week in order for the vehicle
