Monsignor Chibly Langlois, the first Haitian Cardinal

The Catholic Church now has a cardinal at its elm in Haiti. Pope Francis named the first Haitian Cardinal, Monsignor Chibly Langlois, 55, Bishop of Les Cayes and President of the Episcopal Conference of Haiti.

The announcement was made to the world by the Vatican on Sunday, January 12th. Monsignor Chibly Langlois was born on November 29, 1958 in the Vallée de Jacmel, located in the southeast region of Haiti. In 1985, he entered the Grand Séminaire Notre-Dame de Port-au-Prince. He was ordained a priest on September 22, 1991. On April 8, 2004, Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Fort-Liberté, where he spent seven years. Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Bishop of Les Cayes August 15, 2011 He became president of the Episcopal Conference of Haiti on
