Haiti commemorates the 4th anniversary of the earthquake while contemplating

Haiti celebrated the fourth anniversary of the January 12, 2010 earthquake. Surrounded by floral offerings the government began the public ceremony in Champ de Mars. Citizens, churches, the media, organized groups, and the population commemorated this day in their own special way.

The government recommended that January 12th be dedicated to the memory of the thousands of victims. The ceremony started early Sunday morning with President Martelly and his wife placing flowers at Saint-Christophe-Titanyen, a burial ground for thousands who died that tragic day. The president took a moment to reflect before visiting the place where the memorial will soon be built.
