The construction of the two bridge overpasses, one on Delmas Road (intersection of the airport) and the other in the town of Carrefour, is part of a major road infrastructure program for the Martelly Lamothe administration. While the construction of the viaduct in Carrefour has not yet begun, the work in Delmas is progressing. Officials of the Estrella Company and Philippe Cinéas, Secretary of State for Public Works, Transportation, and Communication, provided an update on the progression of these two projects on Monday September 15th. Both parties believe that the bridge overpass in Delmas could be inaugurated on March 31, 2015, as desired by President Michel Martelly and Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe. The viaduct of Delmas cost the Haitian State approximately 16 and 17 million USD.
In addition, Cinéas stressed that the work on the viaduct in Carrefour will begin shortly. Meanwhile, he confirmed that the obstacles on the construction site are being demolished. The officials at Estrella were happy since they want to start the construction of the second overpass soon.
Estrella company officials took the opportunity to mention several other projects that they are carrying out in the country on behalf of the Haitian State such as the construction of roads, temporary shelters, and walkways.
The construction of the Guy Malary terminal, which began in July 2013, is making great strides, explained company officials. More than 6 million USD has been raised for this purpose and the project is already more than 55% complete. "The concrete box culvert is 60% complete, plastering of the mezzanine exterior is 90% complete," read a document from the Dominican firm.
The construction of the building for the Intervention and Law Enforcement Corps (CIMO in French) is another project executed by Estrella that is 95% complete. It cost more than 4 million USD. Fencing, electrical, and sanitary installations are 100% complete. Paving the parking lot is the only thing left to be done for this project to be 100% completed.
Regarding road infrastructure, the Estrella Company is executing a set of projects in several cities. Work on the road of Frères, which started in September 2012, is 90% complete. According to officials of the company, the work should be completed by the end of September.
In Les Cayes, Estrella is building a hurricane shelter. This project should be completed for the Haitian government in the coming days. Another shelter which is more than 73% complete is being built in Gonaives.
In St. Marc, Estrella is also implementing a redevelopment project that will cost more than 7 million USD. It started in May 2013, these projects, which are more than 50% complete, should be completed in May 2015 "There is another redevelopment project in the Artibonite Department. This project, which is more than 98% complete, will cost more than 17 million USD and will be completed by the end of the month," informed the document presenting the various projects executed by Estrella in Haiti.
