World Mental Health Day, celebrated this Saturday, October 10, 2026, revolves around the theme: "Listening to lived experience: authentic voices for real change." On this occasion, at the RHJS premises, in front of an audience of students and journalists, the Haitian Network of Health Journalists (RHJS) and the Haitian Association of Psychology (AHPSY) call for making listening a daily practice, information a tool for awareness, and solidarity a collective commitment. Behind every story, they remind us, there is a person who deserves to be heard, respected, and supported.
For RHJS and AHPSY, journalists have a crucial role to play in this approach. Through their editorial choices and their reports and testimonies, they can help break taboos, combat stigmatization, and remind that mental health issues should be neither a source of shame nor a reason for exclusion. The two institutions, which have signed a memorandum of understanding and partnership aimed at strengthening education, awareness, and communication on issues related to their areas of intervention, emphasize the importance of responsible information: "Informing about mental health also means knowing how to listen, respecting the dignity of individuals, and protecting their privacy."
