The central bank of the United States decided unanimously on Wednesday to raise its interest rates by a quarter point in order to calm inflation, a measure anticipated by financial markets but opposed by President Donald Trump.<\/p>

The Federal Reserve (Fed) had not raised its benchmark rates, which guide borrowing costs, since the summer of 2023. They are now in a range between 3.75% and 4%.<\/p>
