Haiti–Dominican Republic: Trade Continues Despite Official Border Closure

Despite the closure of the borders, Dominican Republic exports to Haiti reached 775.8 million U.S. dollars between January and August 2025.

Although no official decision has been made to reopen the border, commercial exchanges between Haiti and the Dominican Republic continue through a trade corridor established to facilitate the movement of trucks carrying essential goods. Passenger transport by land, however, remains suspended, explained journalist Yves Marie Chanel, speaking on Magik 9 radio on October 9, 2025.
