Gradual Return of Electricity in the Metropolitan Area

Following several days of severe electricity reductions that plunged the metropolitan area into darkness, Electricity of Haiti (EDH) has announced a partial restoration of power to neighborhoods in the capital.

Efforts are underway within EDH to restore electricity to areas of the capital after the forced shutdown of the Péligre hydroelectric plant on June 17, according to a statement released by the institution’s communications department on Friday, July 4, 2025. Five transmission pylons were systematically sabotaged. “This requires major repairs and a large-scale logistical mobilization in order to find appropriate solutions and alternatives,” the EDH statement emphasized.
