Livres en Folie: Exploring the “Other” in Haitian Art and Literature with Sterlin Ulysse

The dean of the Institute of African Studies and Research of Haiti (IERAH/ISERSS), Sterlin Ulysse, gave a lecture on Wednesday, June 18, at the Michèle Tardieu Library in Pétion-Ville, centered on his book “Representations of the Other in Haitian Painting and Literature,” as a prelude to the 31st edition of Livres en folie. It was a passionate exchange between scholars, students, and artists.

In this study, published in December 2023 by Éditions Gouttes-Lettres, Professor Ulysse explores representations of the “other” and the “self” in Haitian visual arts and literature, from the Indigenist period (1936–1960) to the ultra-contemporary era.
