Cuban Medical Cooperation: The Caribbean Stands Firm Against the Trump Administration

This week, heads of state and government officials from several Caribbean nations spoke out against the U.S. government's decision to impose sanctions on leaders of countries that benefit from Cuba's medical cooperation programs.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced on February 25, 2025, sanctions against current or former Cuban government officials, as well as any other individuals, including foreign government officials, suspected of being responsible for or involved in Cuba’s labor export program, particularly its overseas medical missions.

According to the State Department, this policy also extends to the immediate family members of these individuals.
