Security Barriers Installed in Various Neighborhoods Following Armed Bandit Attacks

In several neighborhoods of the metropolitan area, an increasing number of barriers are being noticed in certain dead-end streets and even on main roads, sometimes blocking the passage of vehicles that use the road daily. According to information gathered by Le Nouvelliste, the installation of these barriers is an initiative by residents of these neighborhoods seeking to provide themselves with a means of security against the various attacks carried out by armed groups in the capital.

In Turgeau, this initiative began following attacks by armed gangs in the Debussy neighborhood in April 2023. Since then, a large barrier has been installed on the road leading to Quisqueya University. On this barrier, it is clearly written: "No more renting here and motorcyclists from other neighborhoods are not welcome!" Following this example, other barriers have also been installed in several dead-end streets in this area where the phenomenon of kidnapping was very prevalent.
