HUEH Records More Than Thirty Bullet Wounds in Four-Day Span

The toll of the deteriorating situation in downtown Port-au-Prince continues to rise day by day. From Saturday, January 27, to Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at the time of writing this article, more than thirty cases of gunshot wounds have been received at the State University Hospital of Haiti (HUEH).

The gang warfare in downtown Port-au-Prince continues to claim victims. The reality at HUEH is not different from that reported by healthcare personnel in other hospitals.

As always, the profile of the victims remains the same: those on the outskirts of areas where gangs unleash violence.

Over 80% of the patients interviewed in the emergency ward at HUEH are victims of stray bullets, stating that they had not heard gunshots before losing consciousness for some, or noticing bloodstains on their clothes for others.
