William O’Neill, Independent Expert, Expresses Continued Concerns on Human Rights in Haiti

The independent expert on human rights in Haiti, William O’Neill, concluded his second official visit to Haiti. In a press conference on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at the Karibe Hotel in Port-au-Prince, he expressed ongoing concern about the rapidly escalating and worrisome situation in other departments, particularly Artibonite and Nord-Ouest. "Murders, injuries, and kidnappings are the daily plight of the population. Sexual violence against women and girls remains endemic, and no progress has been made regarding access to services and justice for survivors since my last visit in June."

"I am particularly concerned about the impact of insecurity and violence on children. The testimonies received are enlightening.
