Strong support from Haiti for the return of the United States to UNESCO

On June 30, 2023, the Extraordinary General Conference of UNESCO, the first in 40 years, endorsed, by a large majority, the return of the United States of America to the organization, which they had left for the second time in 2017. The USA had previously withdrawn from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization in 1984 and rejoined in October 2003.

The North American giant had stopped paying its dues to UNESCO since 2011, after a law passed by the U.S. Congress prohibited the country from funding an organ
