La Dessalinienne

It wasn’t till recently that I discovered interesting information regarding Haiti’s national anthem. Through research I found that in 1903 a competition was launched for a national anthem to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Haitian Revolution which would be celebrated in January 1904. The team comprised of lyricist Justin Lhérisson and composer Nicolas Geffrard won the competition. The words of the anthem promote patriotism, liberty, freedom, and unity.
