Haiti’s Carnival

Carnival always begins a month prior to the actual carnival dates in Haiti. On Sundays preceding Kanaval bande à pied (foot bands) animate the streets of the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area. These bands come from specific neighborhoods and comprise percussion, shakers, drums, characteristics tubes, bamboo or metal rods musicians which attract revelers who sway to their sound.
