While the initiative is appealing for its participatory approach and the stated support of international donors, local actors remain cautious: they are demanding concrete actions and fear that these workshops will amount to nothing more than a communications exercise.

An Application of Human Capital Valuation Methods to the Haitian Context. The exercise of translating human tragedy into economic terms sometimes reveals truths that emotion alone could never convey with the same force. This attempt to apply human capital valuation methods to the 5,600 deaths recorded in Haiti in 2024 by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights suggests a range of $400 to $900 million in lost productive wealth—the equivalent of 20 to 45% of the national budget. MEF Officially Launches Youth Employment Initiation Program

MEF Officially Launches Youth Employment Initiation Program

Since the fall of the Duvalier regime, one of the demands of young Haitians of both sexes has been their integration into the social, political, and economic life of the country. This demand took some time before finding a positive response within the public administration. After the January 12, 2010 earthquake, the Haitian government created the Youth Employment Initiation Program (PIJE). However, political instability, natural disasters, and insecurity prevented the effective implementation of this program. Upon taking office in 2024, Prime Minister Didier Alix Fils-Aimé reactivated the PIJE, entrusted it to the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and included it in the 2024–2025 amended budget before its official launch on Tuesday, August 12, coinciding with International Youth Day.
