Frantic search efforts continued Thursday evening in Venezuela through the rubble of collapsed buildings in an attempt to rescue people trapped beneath the debris, one day after a pair of extremely powerful earthquakes left at least 235 people dead, according to the latest official toll.
"Unfortunately, we have received approximately 235 patients who arrived with no vital signs or who died upon arrival at our health facilities," Health Minister Carlos Alvarado said on state television.
