“Cap-Haïtien is a sanitary time bomb,” Michèle Oriol stated, explaining that the water table lies approximately half a meter below the ground, which historically led municipal authorities to prohibit the construction of latrines in the city.

“In latrines, excrement is discharged directly into the groundwater table and the water circulates, which risks contaminating drinking water networks,” Ms. Oriol warned while participating in the morning program on Radio Magik 9 on Monday, May 4, 2026.
