Court of Appeal Dismisses Aviol Fleurant’s Appeal in Illicit Enrichment Case

Former Minister of Planning and External Cooperation, Me Aviol Fleurant, is in the eye of the storm. The Port-au-Prince Court of Appeal has rejected his appeal, thereby confirming in full the ruling issued by Chief Judge Bernard St-Vil. The court also ruled that the investigating judge in charge of the case remains competent unless and until the Court of Cassation issues an order transferring jurisdiction. The investigation led by Judge Loubens Élysée is therefore not suspended, according to the Port-au-Prince Court of Appeal.

The Court of Appeal of Port-au-Prince, sitting in an extraordinary public hearing dedicated to urgent habeas corpus matters, ruled on the case of the former Minister of Planning and External Cooperation, Aviol Fleurant.
