French Senate Approves Resolution Supporting Security Efforts in Haiti

The French Senate adopted, during a public session, a resolution for the restoration of security in Haiti. Introduced by Hélène Conway-Mouret, president of the France-Caribbean inter-parliamentary friendship group, the proposed resolution was adopted with 332 votes in favor, 2 against, and 7 abstentions.

Introduced under Article 34-1 of the French Constitution, the resolution voted by the French Senate calls to “promote the restoration of security in Haiti,” with the aim of “creating the necessary conditions for the establishment of a political process to resolve the crisis.”

Filed in the Senate on July 20, 2023, the text of the resolution was proposed in response to the urgent need to “help the Haitian population and restore security in the country.” In the final version voted by the parliamenta
