Faculty of Law Grapples with Teaching Difficulties Due to Lack of Premises

The Faculty of Law and Economic Sciences (FDSE) of the State University of Haiti (UEH) has just celebrated its 165th anniversary. Yet, in these times of great turmoil, the faculty is not receiving better treatment. Without a space to hold its courses, the FDSE has an operating budget of only 10 million gourdes for the entire year.

Like its sister faculties located near the National Palace, the FDSE was forced to abandon its longtime premises on Rue Oswald Durand. Attacked by armed gangs following the events of February 2024, the faculty has suffered significant losses, including its library, one of the best-stocked within UEH.

"Some of the faculty’s books were salvaged, but others were ransacked, and I even saw them being sold on the streets of Port-au-Prince," denounced FDSE Dean Eugène Pierre Louis during an interview on Magik 9&rsqu
