Bicentennial of the Independence Debt: The CNHRR Presents Its Roadmap for Restitution and Reparations

The restitution and reparations movement is experiencing renewed interest in Haiti after the first wave that began between 2003 and 2004. As the bicentennial of the debt imposed on Haiti by France approaches, initiatives are multiplying, particularly with the establishment of the Comité National Haïtien des Restitutions et des Réparations (CNHRR).

The CNHRR has taken the lead as the commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the debt imposed on Haiti by France draws near. Twenty-one years after Haiti’s independence, in April 1825, France imposed a payment of 90 million francs on Haiti.
