Frantz Bataille Recalled from Ambassadorship in Germany After Three Years

Haiti's ambassador to Germany, Frantz Bataille, was recalled from his position in June. Serving since March 2021, he has been succeeded by Fabienne Magloire, who will serve as chargé d'affaires a.i. A former reporter at Le Nouvelliste and a trained physician, Mr. Bataille spent two decades working as a doctor in rural Haiti. To honor his departure, a ceremony was held in his honor on Tuesday, October 22, at the International Club of the German Foreign Ministry. Le Nouvelliste publishes in full the speech delivered by Frantz Bataille on this occasion.

"My words this morning will never suffice to express the gratitude I feel towards the German Foreign Ministry as I bid farewell to Germany, which, like France and Poland, has been intertwined with our history since the turn of 1804. History has not emphasized enough that European blood was also shed during our wars of independence, particularly on the Haitian side. Subsequently, Germans, French, and Poles married our compatriots, and in several regions of Haiti, European-sounding surnames can be found.
