Edgard Leblanc Fils Confirms Ongoing Discussions About Changing the Mission's Status

During a press briefing on Thursday, September 5, following his meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Edgard Leblanc Fils, President of the Transitional Presidential Council (CPT), confirmed that discussions are underway regarding a potential change in the status of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS).

"Discussions are ongoing about changing the MSS from a non-UN mission to a peacekeeping operation," President Leblanc stated during the press conference at the Villa d’accueil, following his meeting with Blinken.

According to Leblanc, these discussions are driven by concerns about the "funding issue for the MSS," which is not a UN mission and thus does not involve "financial commitments from UN member states."
