Clarens Renois: Security Must Come Before Constitutional Referendum

Clarens Renois, leader of the political organization Unir-Haïti, criticized the country’s authorities for prioritizing the organization of the constitutional referendum over the restoration of security. Speaking on Panel Magik on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, Mr. Renois denounced as nonsensical the idea of holding a referendum without regard for the population’s situation.

The success of the constitutional referendum depends on popular participation, and under current circumstances, that participation is not guaranteed, said Clarens Renois. “We must prioritize the life and safety of the population,” he emphasized, highlighting the security challenges facing the country.
