Transition: CARICOM Eminent Persons Group Addresses Haitian "Concerns"

The CARICOM Eminent Persons Group (EPG), after meetings with the Transition Presidential Council (CPT), Prime Minister Garry Conille, political parties, private sector organizations, human rights groups, and others, released a statement on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, expressing concerns about the state's failure to improve security; disappointment with the limited impact of the Kenyan forces; erosion of public trust in the CPT, exacerbated by corruption scandals and demands for the removal of three advisors; and growing fears that delays and perceived inaction will prevent the transition process from meeting the February 2026 deadline for the inauguration of an elected president.
