Modernizing Haitian Taxation: Introducing the New Tax Code

The new Haitian Fiscal Code will come into effect on October 1, 2024. To shed light on this crucial instrument, EGM Stratégie & Management organized a lunch-debate on Wednesday, June 13. The event, held at the El Rancho hotel, was led by the former Director General of the Directorate General of Taxes, Jocelerme Privert, and tax specialist Lucknaire Duval.

Prior to this initiative, Haiti had a series of fiscal codes, but they were merely compilations, explained tax expert Lucknaire Duval at the outset. It was difficult to navigate through the various laws. One notable compilation effort was by Professor Joseph Paillant in the 1990s. This new code will not only streamline the presentation but also provide a better definition of tax laws. According to the specialist, “The integrated code will facilitate the drafting of tax laws and related legislation.”
