The security situation on national roads remains quite concerning despite a semblance of calm observed in recent weeks, as armed gangs continue to enforce their laws across the Port-au-Prince metropolitan region.

National roads, the main access routes connecting Port-au-Prince to various departments, are under the control of armed gangs. Prior to this new surge in violence, many preferred air travel to reach major cities in the country. With the closure of Guy Malary airport terminal, travel to these cities now inevitably relies on national roads.
