Ariel Henry's Government Marks 217th Anniversary of Jean-Jacques Dessalines' Assassination

A brief ceremony lasting just under fifteen minutes, followed by a floral offering, marked the tribute to the founding father of the nation, Jean-Jacques Dessalines, on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, the date commemorating the 217th anniversary of his assassination in Pont-Rouge.

A small homage to the founding father of the nation. The government arranged a brief ceremony at the Museum of the Haitian National Pantheon (MUPANAH), followed by a floral offering in front of the emperor's bust. Pont-Rouge, a historical and fitting location for commemorating this date, has remained inaccessible to successive governments since 2019. This place is firmly under the control of armed gangs.
