Towards a revaluation of the Haitian countryside and an end to agricultural abandonment

Mibsam Jeannis, professor at the Université d'État d'Haïti (UEH) and teacher at the Collège Canado-Haïtien (CCH), obtained his doctorate in geography from the Doctoral School of Social Sciences at the Université Paris-8, following the presentation of his thesis on Friday June 23. For his doctorate in geography, Mr. Jeannis dealt with "Challenges and issues of agricultural abandonment in the organization of rural areas in Jacmel".

Mibsam Jeannis's doctoral thesis is 350 pages long, divided into four parts and eight chapters. The aim of the work is "to understand the logic of territorial organization inherent in the landscape transformations resulting from the abandonment of former farms", taking into account several parameters including: urban sprawl, galloping demographics and the constant demand to supply the city of Jacmel with agricultural produce.
