Leftist Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said on Sunday, after his unprecedented reelection against conservative candidate Flavio Bolsonaro, that Brazilians voted "to guarantee democracy".
Brazilians "went to vote because we managed to convince them that voting was very important to guarantee democracy," he stated in his first remarks after the announcement of the results.
He added that voters had defeated the "interference" of digital platforms and promised to "regulate" them.
