Approximately 5,254 people, grouped into 1,214 households, have been displaced following armed violence that occurred on September 28, 2026, in the commune of Gros-Morne, in the Artibonite department, according to figures provided by the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The majority of the displaced individuals, 92%, took refuge with host families, while the remaining 8% settled in two sites set up in response to these violent events, the IOM specifies. The communes of Gros-Morne (51%) and Gonaïves (44%) host the vast majority of these displaced persons, it adds. The violence mainly affected the localities of Péletier, Carnifice, and Centre-Ville, located in the 3rd communal section of Rivière-Blanche, as well as the locality of Kamas, in the 6th communal section of Savane-Carrée, and that of Dosny, in the 7th communal section of Moulin.
