GSF Mandate Extended by Six Months

The UN Security Council adopted a resolution on Tuesday extending the mandate of the Gang Suppression Force (GSF) in Haiti for six months, until March 31, 2027. The resolution was adopted with 12 votes in favor, none against, and three abstentions (China, Pakistan, and Russia), as gangs continue to expand their control and the country seeks to strengthen its own security institutions. The Gang Suppression Force is authorized to have up to 5,500 police officers and military personnel but remains far from reaching that target.
