Bergamo Exhibition Explores Little-Known Ties Between Haiti and Italy

An exhibition devoted to the historical ties between Haiti and 19th-century Italy will open on September 19, 2026, at the “Enrico Caffi” Civic Museum of Natural Sciences in Bergamo. Entitled Immaginarsi una nazione: tra Haiti e Bergamo (“Imagining a Nation: Between Haiti and Bergamo”), it will remain open to the public until January 6, 2027.

The exhibition draws a parallel between the trajectories of Giacomo Costantino Beltrami, an explorer from Bergamo who arrived in Haiti in 1826, and Marie-Louise Christophe, the first and onl
