The article “These Teachers Who Can Neither Read nor Write,” which recounts the testimony of Jean Rony Medy, Rector of the Public University of Grand’Anse in Jérémie (UPGA), surprised more than a few people.
In the article, published in the August 27, 2026 edition of Le Nouvelliste, the Rector revealed that he had found that, in 2021, nearly 90% of the 300 teachers who participated in a training program in the Grand’Anse Department could “neither read nor write.”
