History, it seems, is determined to repeat itself. The CARICOM Eminent Persons Group has resurfaced on Haiti’s political scene, once again in the role of mediator. After steering the dialogue process that led to the creation of the Transitional Presidential Council (CPT), the regional organization is now attempting to reconnect the threads of a consensus that has since become fragile.

On Friday, during a virtual meeting, CARICOM’s envoys brought together several representatives of political groupings and civil society organizations. They all shared one common point: the presentation of proposals aimed at replacing the CPT before the symbolic February 7 deadline. This approach reflects both the current political deadlock and the persistent desire of certain actors to redefine the contours of the transition two years later.
